ELECTIVE Courses

The course will equip student with the in-depth understanding of engineering basics of wind energy conversion technologies. Student will apply appropriate statistical and computer tools to assess wind energy potential for wind energy project development in the rural community. Student will apply appropriate Health, Safety and Environment guidelines to implement and operate wind energy projects.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Hard skill focus

(i) Conduct feasibility study for wind energy conversion technology projects.

(ii) Apply the engineering basics of wind energy conversion technologies.

(iii) Develop an appropriate functional design of a wind energy conversion technology for rural application

(iv) Apply appropriate Health, Safety and Environment guidelines for the implementation and operation of wind energy projects. 

Soft skill focus

(i) Present outcomes of a specific task in wind energy development.

(ii) Communicate effectively with stakeholders and project team members to achieve specific tasks

(iii) Use computer tools to achieve specific tasks in the application and implementation of wind energy projects.

(iv) Creatively proffer appropriate wind energy solutions for off-grid application.

(v) Write technically the outcomes of specific tasks for wind energy utilisation.                                             

 

This course will provide student with the broad and in-depth understanding of geothermal energy fundamentals and conversion chains. Student will identify and technically describe various geothermal energy structures. Student will apply the advanced understanding of geothermal fundamentals to assess and characterize geological fields within and outside Nigeria. Student will now design a functional geothermal energy technology for off-grid applications.

(iii) Develop an appropriate functional design of a wind energy conversion technology for rural application.

(i) Think critically and systematically to proffer geothermal energy solutions for off-grid applications.

(ii) Use computer tools to achieve specific tasks in the application and implementation of geothermal energy.

(iii)Work in a team to achieve specific tasks in a geothermal application in the context of decentralised application.

(iv) Present effectively outcomes of innovative geothermal energy solutions to a variety of audience in the energy access sector.

(v) Write creatively to disseminate information about geothermal technology to a diverse audience.                                             

 

The course will provide the student with the advanced understanding of various offshore renewable energy technologies, with special focus on wind turbine. Student will apply appropriate statistical and computer tools to assess offshore renewable energy resources, e.g. wind, tidal and wave, wind energy potential. Student will design a functional wind turbine for off-grid coastline communities. Student will conduct reliability assessment offshore wind turbine structure.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Hard skill focus

(i)Demonstrate advanced understanding of various offshore energy conversion technologies.

(ii) Conduct resource assessment and feasibility studies of offshore renewable energy.

(iii) Conduct reliability assessment of offshore renewable structures.

(iv) Conduct a project risk assessment of offshore renewable structures.  

Soft skill focus

(i) Present effectively broad-base outcomes of offshore renewable energy conversion technologies

(ii) Work in a team to achieve specific tasks in offshore energy conversion technologies

(iii) Use computer tools to achieve specific tasks in the application and implementation of offshore energy

(iv) Write creatively and technically to disseminate information about offshore renewables.
